What have we achieved over the years? Every year we arrange, supply and erect the Christmas trees and lighting in The Avenue and Thames Street, I'm pleased to say that local residents as well as traders join in this scheme to bring some Christmas cheer to the area. We've had a long record of fund raising for local charities and held barn dances and social events to raise funds. We worked with the Police and Spelthorne Borough Council to install, maintain and monitor the CCTV system in The Avenue Parade and local car parks, supplemented by an effective lighting scheme. This system has almost eradicated the nuisance caused by groups of youths in the past and is effective in the prevention and detection of crimes. The Parade and Thames Street is a family friendly pleasant place to shop at all times of the year. We organised and hosted two May Fairs in Orchard Meadow, which were sadly curtailed by the weather but we remain optimistic that our future events will provide excellent opportunities for people to enjoy themselves as our 'guests'.
We held our inaugural Christmas Fair in 2008, a great success with 1,500 local people attending and enjoying a great evening. This summer we will be having a Summer Fair on Sunday 28 June, in The Avenue to compliment the other events in the village that day.
We are, I believe, doing something for Lower Sunbury. I do hope our community and visitors will do something for us, please do keep coming to visit us and support the businesses, as one of my local customers said to me " The heart will go out of our Village if we lose our shops"
